SUMMARY:Is the World Ready for Blockchain-Powered Finance?
DESCRIPTION:What will change when commercial and central banks put assets and currencies on distributed ledgers? \nThough cryptocurrencies\, the price of bitcoin\, and NFTs have dominated the mainstream conversation around blockchain in the past year\, behind the scenes a revolution is happening in the world of finance. Blockchain\, and distributed ledger technologies more broadly\, allow for the tracking and transaction of assets on a digital ledger with unprecedented transparency and traceability. During this panel\, you will hear from three leaders who are pioneering the new world of blockchain-powered finance. We will consider questions like: \n\nHow is blockchain allowing commercial banks to build safer\, more secure payments platforms for customers?\nHow ubiquitous will Central Bank Digital Currencies become?\nWhat kind of infrastructure and governmental policies are needed to ensure the success of these new systems?\n\n►  Speaker Caroline Malcom\, Head of Global Blockchain Policy at the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) brings her extensive background and global perspective. SUMMARY:Virtual Visit to La Cité du Vin\, Bordeaux's Wine Museum
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Visit to\nLa Cité du Vin\, Bordeaux’s Wine Museum\nand\n“Drinking with the Gods”\nThe Current Temporary Exhibition\nWe will go through a lively journey to reveal links established between:\nWine\, the Gods\, and Greco-Roman Civilization\nCome and dive into mythology and (re)discover extraordinary stories!\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, August 12th\, 2021\n12:00 PM – 1:o0 PM EDT\nFree Program via Zoom\n\nRegister Here!\nMerci Beaucoup to the Cité du Vin\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Cité du Vin is a unique cultural facility dedicated to the universal\, living heritage of wine. \nIt offers a spectacular journey around the world\, throughout the ages\, across countless cultures and civilizations. The Cité du Vin is offers a wide range of experiences and activities and experiences intended for all and every day. \nEmbark on an adventure through time and continents to discover the world of wine.\nThrough some twenty digital spaces\, the Permanent exhibition of the Cité du Vin invites you on a journey to the heart of the great history of wine. Come and discover how this universal heritage has inspired people and shaped both their life and their territory for millennia. Immersed in interactive universes\, seated virtually with the great figures of history\, or even by testing your senses\, 3000 m² await you for individual and collective\, educational\, immersive\, dreamlike\, multi-sensory experiences. \nMeet Our Tour Guide \n \nSolène Jaboulet \nMarketing and Communications Director \nLa Cité du Vin \nGraduated from HEC Paris\, France’s leading business school\, and a master in international management from ESADE (Barcelona)\, she began her career in management and strategy consulting\, before joining Thomson\, later Technicolor\, as a business development manager on projects related to new technologies. Returning to France after an expatriation in New York\, she entered the telecom market in 2004: she held several positions at SFR\, in strategy\, marketing and program management\, where she developed numerous partnerships with media players. In January 2013\, she put her expertise in very competitive markets at the service of the energy sector for ENGIE\, where she took responsibility for customer marketing and digital\, before becoming Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of ENGIE\, for retail customers. \nPassionate about the cultural world\, she joined Cité du Vin in February 2018\, and has since then focused on improving visitors’ experience and developing Cité du Vin’s awareness in France and abroad. \nVisiting La Cité du Vin – Bordeaux’s Wine Museum \nIRA SZMUK for In DISCOVER BORDEAUX\, updated 10/12/20 \nThe Cité du Vin is one of the most popular attractions on the tourist trail in Bordeaux. \nIn the last couple of years\, it has become one of Bordeaux’s most iconic institutions even though it’s quite new. The Cité du Vin was inaugurated in 2016 with the goal of celebrating wine and educating people about its production and history. The spectacular building can be seen from afar and uplifts the port of Bassin a Flot\, where the museum is located. Its shape is inspired by the movement of wine swirling in a glass. What’s inside the 55m giant and why do so many people rush to visit it? In this article\, I’ll offer you a glimpse into what is considered to be the best wine center in the world. I’ll explain what you’ll experience in the main exhibition\, what other attractions are offered and why it’s worth visiting even if you’re not a wine lover. Step with me into Bordeaux’s fascinating wine world. \nWhat will you find in Cité du Vin in Bordeaux. \nThe Cité du Vin is an amusement park for wine lovers. It’s an interactive journey into the wine world offering anything from videos\, touch screens\, sensory tables and more. On your journey\, you will discover all the important wine regions in the world\, learn about the different types of grapes\, the fermentation process and the history of wine in different areas across the globe. \nThe permanent exhibition includes 19 sections divided into six areas.\nThe first area is dedicated to the wine regions of the world and welcomes you with huge screens portraying breathtaking images from the world’s most famous wine regions. It’s a beautiful video getting you into the mood to learn everything you can about wine. \nThe second part is much more technical and will teach you about the whole process of how grapes turn into wine. Although there are quite a lot of technical explanations involved\, the Cité du Vin made it interactive and entertaining enough to intrigue even those not obsessed with wine. One of the best sections in this area is the wine portraits. Flat touch screens\, surrounded by gigantic wooden bottle-shaped statues\, help you explore the major wine types\, from red to sweet whites and onto the sparkling ones. \nThe third area is about wine and civilization. Here you’ll learn the history of wine routes and what the sea voyages of wine transportation used to look like. The fourth part is dedicated to imagination and has a magnificent space where you can lay down\, listen to music\, close your eyes and think of wine. The fifth area is called “Lifestyle”\, and includes my favorite part in the museum\, the “Buffet of the Five Senses”. Plenty of different food items from fruits to honey and cookies are presented in front of you on two big tables\, allowing you to explore different wine aromas. The sixth and last area is dedicated to the hosting city\, Bordeaux. Here\, you will learn about the wine history of the biggest wine region in France and the tale of the city itself.\nWhen you finish exploring the exhibition\, you will move to one of the best parts of the visit – the wine tasting. \nFor that\, you need to go back to the ground floor and take another elevator to the 8th and last floor of Bordeaux’s wine museum. The floor is called the Belvedere and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Bordeaux. You can choose one wine from one of the regions the exhibition is currently focusing on and take your glass to the balcony to admire the view. A perfect ending to this enriching experience.  \nClick here for more information.

SUMMARY:The Democratization of Empathy: COVID-19 as the Great Equalizer
DESCRIPTION:In May 2020\, the death of George Floyd sparked outrage across the country and compelled individuals to forgo the safety of their pandemic confinement to take to the streets and demand accountability and change. Not long after\, businesses began to speak out to various degrees- spanning social media posts\, executive statements\, renewed anti-racism commitments\, and a windfall of donations. Corporate powerhouses such as NASCAR\, Adidas\, PepsiCo\, Paypal and Twitter were just a few of the names to take action\, ranging from banning the confederate flag to increasing the representation of managers identifying as POC.  \nNow\, as we reflect upon the past year\, we ask ourselves what the corporate role is in contributing to and sustaining this social movement? Both top-down from a management perspective\, and bottom-up from an employee perspective\, how can professionals deliver upon the promises they made and realize lasting progress in the workplace?  \nOn July 27th\, join the FACC-NY HR & Mobility Committee and guest speaker Joseph West\, Partner & Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Duane Morris LLP to explore this topic. In addition to his active legal practice\, Mr. West has spoken to numerous outlets on the topic of diversity\, including Stanford Law\, contributed to Human Resources Executive Magazine\, and was named a recipient of the Chambers & Partners Minority Lawyer of the Year Award. In 2020\, his op-ed “The Talk” went viral for its unfiltered account of life in America as a minority\, and the reality of the difficult conversations parents face when teaching their children to navigate complex relationships of race\, power and policing.   \nMr. West will be joined by moderator Sonya Sepahban\, CEO and Co-founder at OurOffice\, for a lively fireside chat format\, followed by Q&A from the audience. \n\nMeet the Speaker:\n\n\n\nJoseph K. West is a partner Duane Morris’ Trial Practice Group and practices in the area of complex litigation\, handling a variety of matters in areas including\, but not limited to\, class actions\, insurance litigation\, commercial litigation\, zoning and land use\, catastrophic injury\, products liability\, and labor and employment. Mr. West is also a member of the firm’s Partners Board and serves as the firm’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer\, in which capacity he manages Duane Morris’ comprehensive firm-wide diversity and inclusion program and he chairs the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Consulting Practice. Mr. West advises domestic and global companies on a wide array of legal issues\, and also represents\, trains and advises numerous associations and companies\, including publicly traded companies and their boards and CEOs\, on issues related to diversity and inclusion and the compliance\, risk management and corporate strategies associated with these issues. He helped establish the first of its kind law firm diversity and inclusion consulting practice at the firm\, which has been cited for its innovative approach to crafting sustainable diversity and inclusion programs and solutions for corporate entities. His clients range from startups to Fortune 500 companies and currently include Walmart Stores\, Inc.\, Exxon Mobil\, The Carolina Panthers\, the Dubai-based Al Ahli Holding Group\, Mercedes Benz-USA\, Altria\, Discover Financial Services\, Inc. and Jabil Circuit\, Inc. \n\nMeet the Moderator:\n\n\n\nSonya Sepahban is the CEO and Co-founder at OurOffice. She started as an astronaut wannabe and NASA engineer and quickly rose to CTO and business leadership roles with significant P/L\, managing large global teams. Sonya’s system engineering background and first-hand experience with the challenges in improving D&I in her own teams led her to join hands with others who share her passion to start OurOffice\, the first integrated technology platform for managing Diversity\, Inclusion and Belonging. \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:FACC-DC: Art + History: Eugene Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People - A Virtual Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Eugene Delacroix – Liberty Leading the People \nGreat art comes from real people living real lives. In his popular Art+History series\,  Paul Glenshaw brings his audience though space and time to revisit vibrant moments in history when iconic works were created\, whether it’s Second Empire Paris\, Boston in the American Revolution\, or medieval Calais. \n  \nLiberty Leading the People\, by Eugene Delacroix \nDelacroix’s commemoration of the 1830 July Revolution has become an icon of the French Republic. He revolutionized romantic painting but was actually born into the upper French society\, and favored subjects rooted in literature\, history\, and religion. He witnessed the Les Trois Glorieuses firsthand\, at first with fear. What caused French citizens across classes to rise up against King Charles X? And how was Delacroix transformed? \nThe immersive presentations are more like live documentaries than lectures. They’re designed especially for the online experience\, with extensive use of Google Earth seamlessly integrated with archival maps\, images\, and dramatic footage to put the viewer right in the action. \n  \nJoin presenter Paul Glenshaw\, lecturer for the Smithsonian Associates and professional storyteller\, for this fascinating\, immersive experience exploring Eugene Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People. \n\n

SUMMARY:FACC-DC: Myths & Realities of the American Revolution - France's True Role in the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thu\, Apr 29 at 5:30 p.m. to learn about the myths and realities of the American Revolution and the role of France in it. \nThis is the second in a series of Webinar presentations to discuss France’s role in the American Revolution to be presented by Randolph G. Flood\, co-founder with Robert Sherretta of The Real American Revolution educational programming. \n“French Aid to the American Revolution: The Key Players Who Made It Happen” \nThis talk explores the key individuals who played a major role in providing French aid to the Americans as they attempted to break away as independent colonies of Great Britain\, long before French troops were ever committed to helping the Americans and before war was officially declared between the French and the British. \nCommonly held “myths” will be addressed\, such as Ben Franklin NOT being the first American to develop a relationship with France nor single-handedly gaining French support for the American Cause. Rather\, the “true” behind-the-scenes players who orchestrated French involvement will be revealed and discussed. \nThe above topic deals with one of the most significant misconception of the English colonies relationship with France\, as perpetuated by American history books and multiple historians\, who ignore the “real” truth of France’s role in helping the American cause.  We hope you’ll tune into this educational Zoom session sponsored in cooperation with The Real American Revolution.\nThu\, Apr 29 \n5:30pm

DESCRIPTION:As an early-career professional\, the opportunity to exchange with executives can be invaluable\, providing the impetus you need to excel in your current role\, seek additional responsibilities and position yourself as a leader. The Young Executive Committee is pleased to launch an Ask Me Anything series. One guest executive will share their path to their current role and frankly discuss the challenges and obstacles they encountered along the way.  \nMeet the Speaker: \nThais Roda\, CEO of Liaigre\, has been part of the Liagre executive direction since May 2013\, initially in the role of C.O.O before taking on her current position of C.E.O. Prior to Laigre\, Thais served as Head of Business and Finance\, U.S. Operations at the French fashion company Marithe + François Girbaud. Thais is a native of Spain\, a graduate of the University of Barcelona and Columbia Business School in New York.    \nAt the end of 2020\, founder Christian Laigre\, the namesake of Liagre\, passed\, marking a full-circle transition to a new creative team under the leadership of global C.E.O Christophe Caillaud. Liagre’s high-end furnishings are characterized by a « style without being stylish »  that seduces a clientele wanting to live in contemporary interiors as well as holding on to the excellency of the French furnishing tradition.
